INAUGURAL SOTAK LECTURE IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

“Enhanced Drug Discovery thru a Bioengineering Approach”
    Michael B. Smith, PhD
Consultant / Imaging, Drug Discovery, Technology and Design

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at WPI cordially invites colleagues, alumni, students, families and friends to the Inaugural Christopher Sotak Lecture in Biomedical Engineering. This annual event perpetuates Chris’s passionate commitment to supporting and promoting innovative scholarship and research efforts in the field of bioengineering.

Our inaugural lecture will be given by Michael B. Smith, Ph.D. Dr. Smith has more than 30 years of experience in magnetic resonance imaging, and he was a pioneer in applying numerical calculation to the study of magnetic fields in man. He is a scientist with extensive expertise leading private and university research centers in higher education, industry and hospital settings. Most recent, as the Global Head of Imaging for the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, Dr. Smith lead teams located in the US and Europe supporting both preclinical and clinical research with expertise in MRI, PET/SPECT, ultrasound, microscopy, optical imaging, and probe development. Dr. Smith is a member and fellow of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM).
