Our class gift to WPI will both a scholarship fund and a mosaic of the WPI seal designed by a WPI student as an MQP project.
Our campus community experienced the very sad loss of Patrick Degenhardt ’17, whose brother Adam is a member of our class. As a committee, we began a conversation about how to demonstrate our support for Adam and his family at this incredibly difficult time in their lives. Mr. and Mrs. Degenhardt indicated their wish to establish a scholarship in Patrick’s memory, and it was suggested that we partner with them in this effort.
We’d like to announce to you all that our class gift, other gifts donated to WPI in Patrick’s memory, and gifts from the Degenhardt family will be combined to establish a $50,000 endowed scholarship fund named for both Patrick and our class. As an endowed scholarship, it will exist forever at WPI and will help thousands of students for generations to come.
We’d also like to announce that the mosaic of the WPI seal will be dedicated in memory of our classmate John Kamau Muthee ’15, who passed away in California last year. The plaque that accompanies the seal will bear his name to ensure that his memory is honored in the years to come.
