WPIAA PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Dear :

Homecoming 2012, Oct. 5 and 6, will be one to remember.  Plan for it now and come back to the Hill for a grand adventure. There is nothing finer than to be back on campus in the fall with old and new friends of the long Crimson and Grey line. The colorful foliage will be in full display, barbecues will dot the Quadrangle, the Homecoming Parade is always spectacular—contact an organization you were a part of to see if you can participate by being on their float. The WPI Alumni Association will once again sponsor its brunch, the new Sports and Recreation Center will be open for you to peruse, and football and the Rope Pull round out a spectacular afternoon. Read more...

CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
Sports & Recreation Center Open

At the far end of the Quad overlooking Alumni Field, the Sports & Recreation Center has been under construction most of the last two years. Now completed and ready to welcome students, staff, faculty, and alumni, it is a 140,000 square foot recreational, educational, and environmentally friendly facility. It contains a pool, a fitness center, a four-court gymnasium, an indoor running track, rowing tanks, racquetball and squash courts, and dance studios.

The Sports and Recreation Center also represents a key component of if…The Campaign to Advance WPI—state-of-the-art facilities that match the quality of our students and faculty, as well as the complexities of the problems they are seeking to solve. Reputation and accolades help us compete for the best students and best faculty members, but top-quality facilities can often secure our position while supporting the pursuit of discoveries and innovations that have the potential to reverberate around the globe.

Alumni Memberships Available
  • “Alumni” are defined as individuals who received a bachelor’s and/or graduate degree from WPI and are registered with the Office of University Advancement.
  • Alumni are eligible to purchase an individual membership to the Sports & Recreation Center.
  • Alumni must complete the Liability Waiver.
  • Alumni who are not members may self-sponsor and purchase a day guest pass for themselves only.  Non-member alumni are not eligible to purchase additional day guest passes.

Detailed information about the Sports & Recreation Center can be found here.

SPORTS and RECREATION CENTER DEDICATION on SEPTEMBER 5

Please join the campus community to celebrate the opening of the Sports & Recreation Center, Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 11 am to 2 pm. There will be a ribbon cutting at 11 am followed by an open house. There will be give-aways, equipment assistance, and robotics demonstrations.

20th ANNIVERSARY FOOTBALL CELEBRATION on SEPTEMBER 8

Celebrate the 1992 Engineer Football Team on Saturday, Sept. 8. The 1992 squad captured the last WPI football conference championship and was the last team to make an appearance in the Division III NCAA Playoffs. We invite players and coaches from that team, and their families, to commemorate the season and the team that made it happen.

The day includes the Engineers’ first home game of the 2012 season, against Worcester State, at 1 pm on Alumni Field.  At half-time, we will recognize the 1992 team on the field—bring your cameras!  Following the game (4:30 pm), players, coaches and families of the 1992 team are invited to enjoy light fare, drinks, and fond memories at the Goat's Head Restaurant on the WPI campus.

Please respond to Head Football Coach Chris Robertson at 508-831-5100 or crobertson@wpi.edu. We hope to see you there!
