SILENT AUCTION to BENEFIT SCHOLARSHIPS: OPENS SEPTEMBER 20

During the last two years, the WPI Alumni Association held an online auction leading up to Homecoming to raise money for student scholarships. With our previous successes, the Association has decided to hold another auction this year. The auction will open Sept. 20 and run through Oct. 3. DAVID NORTON ’62 DELIVERS
INNOVATOR of the YEAR LECTURE OCTOBER 9

David Norton ’62, the 2012 WPI Innovator of the Year, will give a public address on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 4:45 pm in Alden Memorial. This event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception. Norton is the world’s leading authority on strategic performance management. Well known as the co-creator of The Balanced Scorecard, he is a founder and director of several professional services firms. A frequent lecturer and writer around the world, Norton’s work on strategy management is the subject of many books, articles, executive conferences, and training programs. The Balanced Scorecard concept was selected by the editors of Harvard Business Review as one of the most influential management ideas of the past 75 years. Norton was voted as one of the world’s 12 most influential thinkers by Sun Top Media’s “Thinkers 50” in 2008.

INAUGURAL WPI GREEK ALUMNI GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP: OCTOBER 20

WPI EXPANDS GLOBAL FOOTPRINT, OPENS FIVE NEW PROJECT CENTERS

Building on a pioneering project-based curriculum and adding to a legacy of experiential learning that has transformed the lives of thousands of students over the course of more than 40 years, WPI has added five new destinations to its expansive network of global project centers. NEW HEAD of ELECTRICAL and COMPUTER ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT NAMED

Yehia Massoud, PhD, joined WPI on Sept. 1 as the new head of the university's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He was most recently head of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as the W. R. Bunn Endowed Chair of Telecommunications and director of the UAB Center for Integrated Systems.  Read more…

Open Enrollment Workshop November 13-14

Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is the universally accepted method of communicating part requirements on engineering drawings. This workshop, brought back by popular demand as an open enrollment offering, will help you understand and use this universal engineering language to eliminate many of the communication problems prevalent in the design-to-manufacturing cycle.

Ciampa Tabbed NEWMAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week 
Forward Chris Ciampa has been named the NEWMAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 9. It marks the second career conference weekly honor for the Ciampa, who earned the award back in September 2010. It also is the second straight week that a WPI player has taken home top billing from the seven-team conference. Last week Christopher Murray was selected Offensive Player of the Week after earning MVP honors at the Worcester City Tournament. Read more ...

Balanced Effort Hands Women's Soccer First Victory of 2012 
Jaime Espinola ’16 collected three points on one goal and one assist as WPI downed Fitchburg State, 5-1 in non-conference action at Elliot Field. The triumph was the first win at WPI for head coach Corey Holton. Read more ...

Worcester State Edges Football 28-21 Despite Big Day From Everett 
Corey Spencer threw for a pair of touchdowns and Kemani Jones eclipsed 100 yards rushing and added a score to help visiting Worcester State rally from an early 14-0 deficit to defeat WPI 28-21 in an entertaining non-conference football game. With the win, the Lancers remain undefeated at 2-0 while the Engineers see its mark level at 1-1. Read more ...
