SUSTAINABILITY TASK FORCE EVENT

The President’s Task Force on Sustainability has been focused on researching avenues for institutional improvement. They are inviting alumni to an event on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in the Class of 1946 Lounge, Campus Center to learn about the progress made, to provide input, and to vote on the top priorities for our efforts. HEALTHCARE DELIVERY INSTITUTE ANNUAL
F.J. ASPINWALL SYMPOSIUM: March 20

The Healthcare Delivery Institute at WPI will host its Annual F.J. Aspinwall Symposium, “Healthcare on the Verge” on March 20 from noon to 4:30 pm, followed by an Innovation Showcase and Networking Reception. Eric W. Dickson, MD, MHCM, FACEP, will deliver the keynote address on “Creating High Performance Health Systems.” Dickson is president of UMass Memorial Medical Group and senior associate dean and professor of emergency medicine at the UMass Medical School. RESEARCH LED by WPI SHOWS PROMISE of WHOLE PLANT THERAPY for MALARIA TREATMENT

In the worldwide battle to curtail malaria, one of the most prevalent and deadly infectious diseases of the developing world, drug after drug has fallen by the wayside as the malaria parasite has become resistant to it. Only artemisinin, derived from the sweet wormwood plant, Artemisia annua, remains as an effective treatment, but it is expensive to produce (particularly when combined with other antimalarial medications to make it less prone to resistance) and is frequently in short supply. The Alumni Relations Office and Alumni Association say goodbye to Jodi Briggs this month. Jodi has accepted the position of Director of Alumni Relations at Dean College. Among her many accomplishments during her five years at WPI, Jodi has significantly improved alumni satisfaction, initiated many of our affinity-based alumni gatherings which have greatly expanded our reach, and dramatically increased the SAS membership and campus activities. The Alumni Relations team and Alumni Association congratulate Jodi on her new endeavor and are pleased to count her among the WPI community. With so many close ties to the university, we look forward to seeing Jodi back on campus soon and often.
