  WPIAA PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Dear Alumni:
Despite two feet of snow on the ground, the optimist in me is saying we’re closer to spring than we are to fall—the pessimist in me is out shoveling snow. The big news on campus since my last letter is WPI’s new president has been elected by the Board of Trustees. Laurie Leshin certainly brings the wow factor with her, but her appointment was far more about the... Read more

STUDENT ALUMNI SOCIETY UPDATE

With C-term in full swing, the Student Alumni Society (SAS) is hard at work planning for the rest of the school year and gearing up for the regional ASAP conference, which will be held Feb. 22-23 at Boston University.

This month, the Student Alumni Society has begun a new trend on campus. A group of history buffs, also known as the SAS History Tribe, has been working diligently to send out a monthly historical newsletter to the WPI community. Each month, this newsletter will feature an important person, place, or event from the university's history, and contain a narrative and pictures to help re-tell the story. February's newsletter profiled Gompei Kuwada and his legacy, still celebrated at WPI today.

Despite the cold weather, SAS is fighting off the C-term blues with the excitement of Gompei’s 5th Annual Birthday Celebration. This extravaganza will include food, inflatables, games, giveaways, plenty of cake, and the goat himself. The event will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 11 am-3 pm in Alden Hall.

For more information about upcoming events and what SAS is doing, please visit
our website.

CAMPUS CELEBRATES PHILANTHROPY on TAG DAY 2014

On Thursday, February 13, the campus was decorated in a very special way—not for Valentine’s Day, but for Tag Day. Blue “tags” on buildings, classrooms, patios, and other campus facilities used by students, faculty and staff every day marked places and spaces that have been made possible by generous alumni, parents, and friends of WPI. WPI’s first Tag Day was an initiative of the Student Philanthropy Advisory Board, in partnership with the WPI Annual Fund, to help raise community awareness about the impact donors have on their WPI experience. Read more…

Networking—Where Do I Begin?
Wednesday
March 12, 6:30-8 pm

Most people typically have a circle of 250 people that they know at most times of their lives. So, when you’re in a room of people, the odds are high that someone in that room is connected to someone you want to know. This webinar will cover how to develop your referrals from one person to another in the field you are exploring. Preparing a comfortable self-introduction, overcoming the fear of initiating contact, and moving comfortably among guests to avoid being trapped in one corner (sound familiar?) will be addressed. Please register at cdcalumni@wpi.edu.

Alumni Quick-Question Calls
Monday, March 10, 6-8 pm

You are invited to schedule a 20-minute appointment to address your career or job search-related “Quick Question” with Connie Horwitz, CDC associate director for Student & Alumni Services. Topic examples?---a quick review of a resume or letter, questions about search strategy, graduate school, or re-entry after time away. To schedule, please email cdcalumni@wpi.edu or call 508-831-5260.
