MENTORS WANTED

The group Curiosity Hacked Worcester is part of a national, non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of the global maker community through STEAM (STEM + Arts) education and skill building. At weekly meetings we teach and award Badges in skills such soldering, circuit design, C++ programming, robotics, woodworking and music to name just a few. Meeting activities and Badge curriculum are heavily project focused with a strong emphasis on the completion of hands-on activities rather than lectures and slides.

Curiosity Hacked Worcester is looking for volunteer mentors and leaders who can teach or assist in teaching skills or topics in which mentors have a background or interest. The group meets weekly on Wednesday afternoons from 4 to 6 pm at Worcester Think Tank on 36 Harlow Street. For more information please contact Joe Forjette at
jforjette@wpi.edu or 508-320-8815.

The TRANSFORMATION of ALUMNI GYM

The campaign to repurpose Alumni Gym into the Robert A. Foisie ’56 Innovation Studio gives alumni the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of WPI students and earn recognition for their class or affinity group. Recognition will be displayed in the renovated facility for individual gifts of $500 or more, affinity groups that raise $10,000 or more, and classes that raise $10,000 or more or that reach 30% or more participation. The global and multidisciplinary approach to project-based problem solving at WPI requires space for close collaboration, flexibility, technology, instrumentation, access to mentors and advisors—and a one-of-a-kind facility. The Robert A. Foisie ’56 Innovation Studio at Alumni Gym will become the physical manifestation of the WPI Plan... Support it today!

TELEGRAM FEATURE: Softball Coach Whitney Goldstein Recalls 'Pops' — Don Zimmer
Whitney Goldstein had to throw a baseball off a mound a week ago Saturday, and that felt a little strange to Goldstein. The WPI softball coach was used to underhanding one from a circle in high school before becoming an All-America third baseman at UMass, but she wound up, let it go and paid a perfect tribute to her late grandfather by firing a strike. Goldstein, the granddaughter of former Red Sox manager Don Zimmer, had the privilege of delivering the ceremonial first pitch when the Tampa Bay Rays honored Zimmer before last Saturday's game against the Mariners at Tropicana Field.
